Sage 50 2012 New Features Summary
Now that we have had a chance to look at the new version of Sage 50 Accounts we have put together a list of some of the
great new features.
Installation and Set up
- When install new Sage software it checks if your PC has the required specification.
- You now need to input serial number and activation key on install not on creating a new company.
- Network installation is much easier, you don't need to have the CD for all your machines.
- More progress bars in the new version so you are less likely to think your software has crashed.
- Opening Balances are much easier with an Opening Balance Wizard which includes a default date
- You can enter unreconciled bank transactions in the opening balance wizard without compromising your total balance - having entered your balance from the accountants any individual unreconciled transactions entered will automatically include a reversing journal to the overall balance remains the same.
Useability Features
- You can now Lock Dates - users can be prevented from entering transactions for past dates within the year. The manager can overide this but normal users cannot if the set lock date option is removed from permissions. Also when the manager overides the date this is flagged on the financials page so you can easily see past transactions entered from before the lock date. Great for those who need to produce monthly management reports and be sure that the data then does not change. There is now a quick search option on many of the screens which can work with the old search to narrow down the information you want to see.
A new quick print option - useful if you always print one standard invoice or order design.
The edit Chart of Accounts function looks much better with a preview pane, much more intuitive than in the past.
There is a new Taxation Category in the P&L - Excellent for Interim Dividend payments. So you can see the profit before and after taxation.
Support and General Running
- New Support homepage within Help / About to really help the telephone support team with troubleshooting.
No need to delete queue.dta when users crash out - the manager can now delete users from in the software.
Performance has been improved in lots of areas including check data , VAT return and bank reconciliation. Also when reports were run on multi user systems the database would be locked for other users - this has now been changed so there should be alot less waiting around for concurrent users.
You can now remove companies from the company list without deleting them - useful if accounts personel change which accounts they are looking after in a multi-company environment.
Clear Audit Trail can now not be run for the current financial year - requested by accountants.
Duty code for imports added to the Product Record - another wishlist request.
File Maintenance has been improved - Comments are grouped for easier reference - Fix is now Recovery Tools. - no more huge lists of similar comments.
Recovery Tools now mean you can try and fix errors for specific areas instead of one fix button - linked to a 'How to Fix Data Errors' area on My Sage for Sage Cover customers.
Other areas
- Annual Return of Details form now available for Irish companies.
The Accountants Dataset Manager helps accountants view clients data in Sage 2008 to 2012 without upgrading - for accountants only.
You can now access your accounts on your mobile. Only available for iPhone and Blackberry so far. - Android and iPad currently under developement. This looks really good on the Blackberry demo, with many great features.
